eCycling is an important step in our sustainability efforts, and our commitment to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

Reduce, reuse, recycle. You hear the phrase constantly when referring to paper, plastic, cardboard, metals and more, but did you know that you can recycle your electronics too? Since 2014, we’ve held recycling events at the end of each fall and spring semester where the Adelphi community can come and drop off old and unwanted electronic equipment for free, environmentally conscious recycling.

eCycling is an important step in our sustainability efforts, and our commitment to be as green as possible.

Why Recycling Your Electronics is Important

Less than 20% of electronics are recycled each year. Recycling ensures that you’re not contributing to extra waste in landfills or incinerators, which lowers the number of toxic fumes such as lead, mercury and cadmium that are contaminating our environment.

Erasing Your Content

Before recycling any of your electronic equipment, please make sure that you wipe any applicable devices so that personal information (photos, credit card info, medical history, contact info and more) is not left on your device.

Recycling Throughout the Year

While we host eRecycling events at the end of each fall and spring semester, we understand that there might be times throughout the year that you will need to properly dispose of your electronics that fall outside the dates we are holding our events. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has a list of waste collection sites where you can safely and responsibly drop off your electronics for recycling.

Suggested items to recycle include:

  • Desktop Computers
  • Laptop Computers
  • Mobile Phones
  • Tablets
  • TVs
  • DVD players
  • Monitors and Displays
  • Printers
  • Cords
  • Chargers
  • Other Electronic Peripherals and Components
  • Computer Mice
  • Appliances
  • Video Game Consoles and Accessories

Neither Adelphi nor ITAMG are responsible for any information left on equipment. View the Recycling Certification Letter from ITAMG (PDF).
